Employers are charged the active contractor fee for the month of the invoice’s end date.
If fees for that month have already been billed, the invoice is counted toward the month it was submitted instead.
Examples:
An invoice for August 1–31, submitted September 2, before August fees are billed → August fee.
An invoice for August 1–31, submitted after August fees have already been billed → September fee.
An invoice for September 1–30 → September fee.
An invoice for August 1–28, paid on July 28 → August fee, not July. The payment date doesn’t affect which month is billed.
Because of this, if a contractor has one invoice ending in July and another ending in August, you may see two separate charges close together, even if both were paid around the same time.
