The Taxes page (US Payroll > Documents > Taxes) lists every tax filing for your business, including state unemployment filings, state income tax returns, and federal returns. Each filing has a status that tells you where it stands and whether you need to do anything.
This article explains each status, what it means for you, and what to do next.
Pending
Pending means the filing has not been submitted yet. In most cases, it is simply not due yet and will be filed on schedule.
A pending filing can also be waiting on something, such as a state tax number that has not been issued. A due date alone does not tell you whether the filing is ready, so it helps to check the details.
How to check: Hover over the status. If a message appears, it explains what the filing is waiting on.
Action Required
Action Required means something is blocking the filing, and it will not be completed until the blocker is resolved. This status is shown in red so it stands out.
How to check: Hover over the status to see the blocked reason and the filing history, which shows what has happened on the filing and when.
Common blocked reason: “Applied for tax ID”
This means a state tax number (tax ID) has not been uploaded for your business yet. Without it, we cannot file for that state. What you need to do depends on whether you have employees there:
You have no employees in that state. No action is needed, and you can ignore the filing.
You have employees in that state. You need the tax number so the filing can go through. Log in to your state tax account to check whether the number has been issued, or contact the state’s tax agency for an update. Once you have it, contact our support team so we can update your account and complete the filing.
Filed
Filed means the filing has been submitted. You do not need to do anything.
